Prior to establishing ASIC Ltd, Simon Atkinson, BEng FInstLM, served in the UK Armed Forces as a commissioned Officer and gained significant operational experience in Northern Ireland, Bosnia and the Middle East.
Whilst serving on the staff at SFOR Corps Headquarters, responsible for theatre Reserve and ‘Over the Horizon’ contingency planning, he was additionally tasked to establish a working group alongside the UN and Bosnian Ministry of the Interior to design and implement a national programme of multi-ethnic Public Order training for Police Commanders and Officers from all district Police Support Units. For this work he received a Staff Commendation, by then Brigadier PETRAEUS (US), on conclusion of his tour.
Qualified as an Advanced (covert) Agent Handler (HUMINT'er), Simon is experienced in the planning and conduct of complex operations involving numerous agencies and nationalities.
He is also widely recognised as an extremely skilled planner of strategic, operational and tactical training solutions. As a former Special Intelligence officer, he has planned and conducted joint exercises with Special Forces from the UK and a large number of NATO nations and liaised at MoD level to implement enhancements to UK ‘Conduct after Capture’ policy. He also has significant operational experience relating to the answering of Critical Information Requirements.
A specialist in Hostage Survival and Awareness training - he has also advised Clients on the conduct of successful and delicate negotiations following the abduction of their employees and loved ones.
Following operational tours, he then returned to Regimental Duty in Northern Ireland, where he took on the responsibility for the training of Infantry units to deploy on Counter-Terror/Counter-Insurgency (CT/COIN) operations worldwide.
As a senior Military training advisor, he has planned and conducted ‘Integrated Contingency Planning’ with all 'Blue Light' services, as well as complex Civil/Military liaison exercises and multinational CT/COIN development programmes worldwide. He also advised on the development of a National Hostage Survival policy and delivered the associated ‘Train the Trainer’ course for a European NATO ally.
Simon is also a qualified Advanced Surveillance Operator, Ethical Computer Hacker and Locksmith. He is a self-confessed perfectionist demanding, and receiving, excellence from himself and his Consultants - without exception.
